Twin Commercial Pool Cover Reel Systems Installation

Installation of two high-level commercial pool cover reels for both main pool and toddler pool on indoor leisure facility at DWP, Leeds.
The Brief
Our client needed to reduce energy costs on both pool and air heating as well as running costs for dehumidification. The commercial pool cover system also needed to provide an effective barrier to reduce the impact of the condensation on the main building fabric which was being compromised by the poor performance of the out-dated environmental control system.
Both reel systems had to be designed to maintain as much surface area around the pool to ensure swim teachers, lifeguards and other personnel had full access around the pool. It was vital that the pool cover systems would not interfere with the emergency exit route located adjacent to the pool.
What We Did
We installed two high-level pool cover reels, one 10 metres and one 6 metres. Both reels were surface-fixed to the adjacent wall at both ends of each pool. The design had to incorporate both changes in level and vertical obstructions whilst meeting aesthetic requirements such as both being level with each other and blending into the background as much as possible.
How We Did It
We had a team of three engineers working overnight who first prepared the systems for assembly and then proceeded to install the mounting stanchions and tube assembly. The control panels, key switches and remote control systems were then installed and tested.
Finally the covers were attached to the reels and the pool cover systems fully tested and programmed to ensure operational compliance.
The entire process took three nights to complete plus staff training on the fourth day, leaving a delighted client now able to reduce their pool operation energy consumption and reduce pool operating costs to the benefit of all their customers.
