Slatted Reel Pool Cover Repair, Bristol

A Pit-Mounted Pool Cover with Multiple Issues

A 3 day repair to a pit-mounted slatted reel pool cover system with limited access to the mechanism.

The Brief

This repair job in Bristol included multiple issues.

The pit-mounted reel system had completely failed in various ways; the motor had failed; the straps securing the cover to the reel were broken; plus the steel tub wall bearing had failed and the tube/cover was resting on the floor of the pit.

The repair was a head-scratcher as access was very limited. The end of the reel that had broken could only be accessed by entering the pit under a wall which had been built over one half of the pit.

What We Did

Before we could do anything we had to manually remove the cover from the reel and place it in sections on the pool.

We then had to empty the pit to gain access to the broken wall plate. The wall had to be repaired and waterproofed before we could re-attach the wall bracket.

The motor was removed from the steel tube and replaced with a 250Nm Unicum IP66 low voltage motor, along with a fully programmable control panel.

How We Did It

With the motor installed and the control box wired, we were able to check the operation of the reel to ensure accurate programming was achievable.

We then re-filled the pit with water to meet the pool level and re-attached the slatted cover to the reel.

The system was checked for full rotation in both directions and programmed to suit the pool.

A remote control was added to the control system making life easier for the client, with the option of Bluetooth control via mobile phone.

This repair took 3 days to comlpete.
